Changing Schedules
Cruisers rarely keep a schedule, and if you’ve read the previous posts, you are probably coming to this conclusion already. Despite my moderate Type-A tendencies, I actually like this about cruising – you do what you want, when you want, when it makes the most sense or just feels right. All of which is the long way to say that we are not yet in Half Moon Bay. But we have a plan (another one).
Today we are taking the boat up to KKMI (our boat yard in Richmond, CA). Wednesday is my last day at work (!!). Thursday & Friday I will make what’s called “the transition” which is the Sunbrella piece that connects the bimini to the dodger, providing full overhead shade in the cockpit. I do this there for the brilliant instruction and supervision of Tom and Deb of Cover Craft (and their gigantic work space). Next weekend is a bit of a fudge. We have a super bowl party at our dear friends’ place in San Rafael, and it feels a little weird to leave Emery Cove today and have it be for good, so we might swing back through to say goodbye. Early next week weather-permitting Solla will head out the Golden Gate and make the big Left Turn.
Aside from making and changing plans, life has been all about lists lately. The “big list”, mini lists for the day, wrap-up items at work list, “hey doc can you prescribe these 30 things for our med kit” list, etc. It’s a good thing we’re not leaving the country yet, as that would spin up 10 more lists. I know this is par for the course. Other cruisers and soon-to-be-cruisers all nod their heads with understanding. I’ve seen several blogs and facebook posts jabber on about pre-departure crazy. I am keeping it in perspective though. We have been chipping away at our boat to-do lists for years, and it’s really nice that I’m crossing things like “cancel Netflix” off the list versus “re-plumb the sink” or “install nav lights”. The boat is ready. We will catch up eventually.
